Outside of the reproductive years there is absence of menses during childhood and after menopause. Amenorrhoea is a symptom with many potential causes. Primary amenorrhoea (menstruation cycles never starting) may be caused by developmental problems such as the congenital absence of the uterus, or failure of the ovary to receive or maintain egg cells. Also, delay in pubertal development will lead to primary amenorrhoea. Secondary amenorrhoea (menstruation cycles ceasing) is often caused by hormonal disturbances from the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland or from premature menopause, or intrauterine scar formation. A vertical piercing through the entire glans of the penis is known as an apadrayya, and is a completely different piercing. The combination of an ampallang and an apadravya is sometimes referred to as the magic cross. This is an advanced piercing, and the procedure can be extremely painful. Full healing usually takes between four and six months, but can take a year or more. This piercing, once healed, is often extremely pleasurable to the bearer because it stimulates the internal penis tissues. It can be sexually stimulating to the receiving partner during sexual intercourse, usually due to stimulation of the G spot. Amyl Nitrate A drug that is inhaled to prolong or intensify orgasm. Its use is potentially very dangerous and is illegal to sell in many states. Anal Beads Anal beads are a sex toy consisting of several small balls attached together in series which are continuously inserted through the anus into the rectum and then removed with varying speeds depending on the effect desired (most typically at orgasm to enhance climax). Those who use anal beads enjoy the pleasurable feeling they receive as the ball passes through the narrow sphincter of the anus. Anal Sex Anal sex most often refers to the sex act involving insertion of the penis into the anus. The term anal sex can also sometimes include other sexual acts involving the anus, including but not limited to anilingus and fingering. It is a form of sexual behavior considered to be comparatively high in risk, due to the vulnerability of the tissues and the septic nature of the anus. As the rectal mucosa provides little natural lubrication, a personal lubricant is most often required or preferred when penetrating the anus. Androgens The "male" sex hormones. Actually produced by women as well (though in smaller quantities and with little absorption). Androgen Replacement Therapy The administration of testosterone. This is done to increase sex drive in men with androgen deficiencies. Non-clinical, slang terms include rimming, rim-job, salad tossing, butt licking and eating ass. It is performed by people of all sexual orientations. Depending upon the context in which it is performed, this sex act can either be used for personal pleasure among consenting parties or as a form of erotic humiliation. Anorgasmic Anorgasmia (often related to delayed ejaculation in males) is a form of sexual dysfunction sometimes classified as a psychiatric disorder in which the patient cannot achieve orgasm, even with "adequate" stimulation. However, it can also be caused by medical problems such as diabetic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, genital mutilation or complications from genital surgery, pelvic trauma, hormonal imbalances, total hysterectomy, spinal cord injury and cardiovascular disease. Anorgasmia is far more common in females than in males and is especially rare in younger men. Anus The human Anus (from Latin anus meaning "ring", "circle" is the external opening of the rectum. Like other animals, its closure is controlled by sphincter muscles. Feces are expelled from the body through the anus during the act of defecation, the primary function of the anus. The anus plays a role in sexuality, though attitudes towards anal sex vary. The anus is also the site of potential infections and other conditions including cancer. The subject is often considered a taboo part of the body, and it is known by a large number of usually vulgar slang terms. The traditional polite synonym for anus was fundament, though this euphemism is rarely heard now that medical terms are widely acceptable. Apadravya Like the ampallang, the apadravya is a piercing that passes through the glans of the penis. While the ampallang passes horizontally through the glans, the apadravya passes vertically through the glans from top to bottom, almost always placed centrally and passing through the urethra. Off-center apadravyas are also possible, wherein the piercing is deliberately offset, yet usually still passes through the urethra. The piercing is normally done on a slightly forward angle to facilitate vaginal intercourse. Aphrodisiac An aphrodisiac is a substance which is used in the belief that it increases sexual desire. The name comes from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sensuality. Throughout history, many foods, drinks, and behaviors have had a reputation for making sex more attainable and/or pleasurable. However, from a historical and scientific standpoint, the alleged results may have been mainly due to mere belief by their users that they would be effective (i.e., the placebo effect). In particular, medical science has not substantiated claims that any particular food increases sexual desire or performance. Arab Straps Arab strap (sexual device), a contraption used to help a man retain an erection during sexual intercourse. Auto-eroticism Autoeroticism is the practice of stimulating oneself sexually. The term was popularized toward the end of the 19th century by British sexologist Havelock Ellis, who defined autoeroticism as "the phenomena of spontaneous sexual emotion generated in the absence of an external stimulus proceeding, directly or indirectly, from another person." The most common autoerotic practice is masturbation, and the two terms are often used as synonyms, although masturbation can also occur with a partner. Many people use dildos, vibrators, anal beads, sybian machines, and other sex toys while alone. Autoerotic behavior is considered to be a normal part of human development, beginning when adolescents are able to stimulate themselves sexually. Axillary sex Axillary intercourse (slang: bagpiping, in reference to the underarm manner in which bagpipes are played; "directing traffic", or "pit-wank", a variant of the term "tit-wank") is a sexual variant where the penis is inserted in the other person's armpit. It is also called asphyxiophilia, autoerotic asphyxia, scarfing, kotzwarraism, or breath control play. Colloquially, a person engaging in the activity is sometimes called a gasper. The erotic interest in asphyxiation is classified as a paraphilia in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association. |

B Bacterial Vaginosis Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal infection (vaginitis). For grammatical reasons, some people prefer to call it vaginal bacteriosis. The diaphragm and reusable condoms became common after the invention of rubber vulcanization in the early nineteenth century. Condoms became even more popular after the 1930s invention of latex, which enabled the creation of thinner, disposable prophylactics. Bartholin's gland The Bartholin's glands (also called Bartholin glands or greater vestibular glands) are two glands located slightly below and to the left and right of the opening of the vagina in women. They were first described in the 17th century, by the Danish anatomist Caspar Bartholin the Younger (1655-1738). Bartholin's glands are homologous to bulbourethral glands in males. However, while Bartholin's glands are located in the superficial perineal pouch, bulbourethral glands are located in the deep perineal pouch. They secrete mucus to provide vaginal lubrication. Bartholin's glands secrete relatively minute amounts (one or two drops) of fluid just before a woman orgasms. The minute droplets of fluid were once believed as important for lubricating the vagina, but research from Masters and Johnson demonstrated that vaginal lubrication comes from deeper within the vagina. The fluid may slightly moisten the labial opening of the vagina, serving to make contact with this sensitive area more comfortable for the woman.
